the fact that he got genuinely angry at them is a display of love. if he felt he had to repress his emotions because he thought "they are doing hima favour" and thus should never get upset is an act of self oppression, not love.

and from their perspective:

and the fact that they genunely felt bad, and genuinely felt and resonated with his anger is also beautiful. instead of thinking he should always be happy and appreciative is an act of oppression too. that they felt the anger as if they woudl of their own child. is so telling. so beautiful.

so to display anger (or true emotions) and not always positive emotions is an act of real connection. of truth. true love. to always be smiling and carry a happy facade is distasteful. it is satire. it is psychotic. like seeing the apple fitness+ gurus. they look like puppets.

being real is true respect. respect for others, and more important, respect for yourself. the problem is that this may have the opposite effect of coming across as disrespectful. in a world that fetishizes smiles, pleasantries, and fake positivity. there is an undertone of ulterior motivation. of hiding. repression.
